It is with great sadness that we announce John Norman, known to many as Sonny, aged 80, passed peacefully in the presence of his family on February 11, 2026, at the Miller Centre.
He lived a life grounded in routine and the simple joys that brought him comfort every day. In his retirement, he began each morning with what we called his “morning run”—a quiet drive to start the day. He never missed a chance to try his luck with the lottery. His days were brightened by visits with his mall buddies and a cherished circle of friends whose conversations, laughter, and companionship meant the world to him.
John was predeceased by his parents; John and Margaret Norman (nee Whalen); sister, Pauline Scott, brothers: Dermot (Rita) and William (Mary) Norman and brothers-in-law; Raymond Newman and Jermone Kavanagh.
Leaving to mourn are his partner, Lorraine King, sons: Keith, Harold, and Edward Norman and their families, Lorraine’s children; Peter (Taya) King and Susan (Kenneth) Neil. He will be remembered by his grandchildren: Jessica and Cody Norman, London and Lola King, Kieran and Violet Neil. John also leaves behind his brother, Dennis (Catherine) Norman, sisters: Susan (Thomas) Burke, Shirley Kavanagh and Margaret (Randy) Warren, brother-in-law, Jerald Scott. A special thank you to Peter and Sharon Kane, along with many neighbours, friends and family, who provided comfort during John’s illness. He is also mourned by a large circle of extended Norman and Shannahan family and friends.
Cremation has taken place, visitation will be held at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls, on Sunday, February 15 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, Long Harbour on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 1:00 pm with inurnment to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Long Harbour.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jermone’s Church, Long Harbour at ourladyofangelsparish@rcsj.org.
May he rest in peace.
