Johnny (John) Maddicks Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden death of Johnny Maddicks on January 23 at his home in Cape Broyle.

Johnny is predeceased by his father, John Maddicks, father-in-law, Steve Coady, brother-in-law, Stephen Coady and numerous members of the Maddicks, Dillon and Coady families.

Left to mourn with broken hearts are his wife of 32 years, Sher, who he adored, his son David Sullivan (Linnea), grandchildren Victoria, Edward John and Benjamin, his loving mother, Edna Maddicks (Mudder), brother Jerry Maddicks (Michelle), sisters; Leah Maddicks and Jacqueline Rideout (Jeremy), mother-in-law Irene Coady, sister-in-law Heather Murphy (Bill), nieces; Cynthia Chafe (Jimmy) and Drew Rideout, nephews: Christopher Maddicks, Maddox Rideout and Patrick Murphy, as well as an enormous amount of extended family and friends.

Johnny grew up in Goulds, where he formed lifelong friendships that remained close to him always. He later moved to Vancouver, BC for 24 years with his wife Sher and son David where he worked for London Drugs and built strong relationships with everyone he met. In 2016 he and Sher moved back to Cape Broyle, NL where he quickly became a pillar of the community, always helping out others with a smile for everyone he met.  He worked at Dalton’s Home Hardware followed by Kelly’s Contracting with Dave and Jeremy until his passing.

An avid car lover, he would often be seen driving his ‘79 Trans Am or his Harley. His passion and knowledge of music was second to none. He spent a lot of time strumming on his guitar and had a knack for manipulating song lyrics to humorously parody his life and that of his friends, often to their chagrin. He was a very handsome, fun-loving man with the biggest heart. Johnny enjoyed spending time with his family and friends over a cup a tea, the simple things in life.

If you wish to pay your respects, Johnny will be resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home in Bay Bulls on Wednesday, January 28 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Thursday, January 29 from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Lower Road, Cape Broyle on Friday, January 30, 2026  at 11:00 am with interment at Our Lady of the Cape Cemetery.
